Yes, this cup has a plastic lid. We've directly asked KeepCup about making a fully plastic-free version, but they explained they can't do it due to technical issues with hot liquids, vapor expansion, and safety concerns. They claim it's "the most non-toxic plastic" - though honestly, we're skeptical about any "non-toxic plastic" claims.
So why do we still recommend it? Because we don't drink through the plastic lid - we just use it for transport, then remove it. When we're actually enjoying our coffee, it's just our lips on glass. We're not perfect, and sometimes we make compromises while seeking better options. Just like our recommended water filter, which also contains plastic components - it's an imperfect world.
With that transparency out of the way - this is still our favorite reusable cup. After trying countless options over the years (and accidentally dropping quite a few!), we've settled on the KeepCup Brew Cork for daily use.
The tempered glass body ensures your coffee tastes exactly as it should—no metallic or plastic aftertaste—while the natural cork band provides comfortable heat protection and a delightful organic feel in your hand.
Baristas love this cup because it's designed to standard coffee sizes, fits perfectly under espresso machines, and works seamlessly with their workflow. This means you get the same quality coffee experience whether you're at home or at your favorite café.
The press-fit lid is splashproof without requiring a complicated closure mechanism, making it perfect for commuting. From a sustainability perspective, the cup pays for itself after just 24 uses compared to disposable cups. The cork band is made from 100% recovered material.
We've put these cups through years of daily use (and yes, occasional drops!), and they've proven remarkably durable. The medium 12oz/340ml size is perfect for most coffee drinks, from flat whites to lattes.
